<p><span style="font-family: tahoma,sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">Despite the various myths surrounding protein, <br />
														many of which I&#39;ll dispose of today, carbs and fats<br />
														still rule the roost when it comes to nonsense.</p>
<p>														And I&#39;ll be exploring the article recently on MSNBC<br />
														about protein; a nice read for the most part.</p>
<p>														Still, there were some major flaws..</p>
<p>														For example:</p>
<p>														&quot;Eat healthy carbs like brown rice and yams.&quot;</p>
<p>														Sure, that&#39;s a step in the right direction, but for<br />
														many folk it&#39;s a step toward obesity.</p>
<p>														I enjoy brown rice&#8230; on occasion. And I enjoy it<br />
														on my &quot;Feed Day&quot; meals, along with some dessert <br />
														or perhaps some pizza.</p>

<p>														What&#39;s so great about protein? Or more to the<br />
														point: What&#39;s so-so about carbohydrates?</p>
<p>														You simply cannot find an &#39;essential carbohydrate&#39;.<br />
														It doesn&#39;t exist. There are essential amino acids<br />
														(proteins) and essential fatty acids (fat)&#8230; yet<br />
														no essential carbs. </p>
<p>														Why?</p>
<p>														Simple: Your body can make all the glucose <br />
														(sugar) it needs by itself.</p>
<p>														Your body cannot make essential fatty acids or<br />
														essential amino acids. You must eat these foods <br />
														or you will eventually become sick.</p>
<p>														You can live with ANY starch for the rest of your<br />
														life and do just fine. Fortunately for your taste<br />
														buds, you don&#39;t have to. That is&#8230; if you use my<br />
														Feed Meal strategy covered in EODD.</p>
<p>														<a href="http://atozfitness.com/wordpress/go.php?http://www.myeveryotherdaydiet.com/" target="_blank" title="(493 hits)"> The Every Other Day Dietplan</a> &lt;&#8212; favorite foods? Yes.</p>
<p>														Back to protein:</p>
<p>														From the MSNBC article today:</p>
<p>														&quot;A Johns Hopkins University study found that a diet<br />
														in which roughly a quarter of the calories (about<br />
														60 percent more than the recommended 10 to 15<br />
														percent) come from lean protein sources reduced<br />
														blood pressure, LDL (&quot;bad&quot;) cholesterol levels, and<br />
														triglycerides better than a traditional higher-carb diet.</p>
<p>														&quot;Other research finds that diets rich in protein<br />
														can help prevent obesity, osteoporosis, and<br />
														diabetes&#8230;&quot;</p>
<p>														Think that&#39;s good? It is&#8230; but here&#39;s one better:</p>
<p>														Cycling your diet to include 50% protein has been<br />
														shown to radically increase fatburning due to the<br />
														thermogenic (calorie-burning) nature of protein<br />
														foods.</p>
<p>														I do this for 4 weeks, then back my protein down <br />
														to 30% or so. Remember, I lift weights, so that<br />
														protein is going toward muscle repair.</p>
<p>														What about carbs?</p>
<p>														Get this:</p>
<p>														During those four weeks I eat about 20-30 grams<br />
														per day of carbs&#8230; total! And I am a 225-pound<br />
														athlete.</p>
<p>														The exception: My Feed Days. Then I eat a LOT of<br />
														carbs.</p>
<p>														In Summary:</p>
<p>														1. You need about a gram of protein per pound of<br />
														lean body weight to make protein work for you and<br />
														help you shed bodyfat;</p>
<p>														2. You need to lower your intake of starches and<br />
														even most fruits to melt bodyfat faster;</p>
<p>														3. Get your starches, fruits, and even &quot;junk food&quot;<br />
														in during &quot;Feed Meals&quot;&#8230; meals that are<br />
														purposefully higher in calories to keep your<br />
														fatburning metabolism high and healthy;</p>
<p>														When it comes to dieting, protein RULES. </p>
<p>														Great sources include grass-fed beef, eggs, <br />
														hormone-free chicken, non-farm fish, game <br />
														meats, and whey.</p>
<p>														NOW:</p>
<p>														Here&#39;s my simple plan for getting all of this<br />
														accomplished WITHOUT THINKING about it&#8230;</p>

                                    But then I had a crazy idea&#8230;<br />

<p>                                    I decided to &quot;think&quot; myself warm!</p>
<p>                                    Yeah, sounds all &quot;Jedi Mind Trick-ish&quot;,  										I realize that.</p>
<p>                                    But it WORKED!</p>
<p>                                    Within about 5 minutes, I was so warm I  										actually had to take off a<br />
                                    layer of clothing!</p>
<p>                                    The point is, I&#8217;m a FIRM believer in  										&quot;mind over body&quot;!</p>

                                    So here&#8217;s how to use this to BURN MORE  										FAT&#8230;<br />
                                    =====================================</p>
<p>                                    When I&#8217;m really looking to trim down my  										waist, I actually<br />
                                    &quot;communicate&quot; with my abs to get them to  										give me a hand.</p>
<p>                                    Here&#8217;s how I do it&#8230;</p>
<p>                                    First, on my cardio days, I do 3 SETS of  										hardcore abs exercises<br />
                                    (hanging knee raises with only 1 minute  										rest in between).</p>

<p>            Why do new year&rsquo;s  													resolutions usually fail?  													Why do you start with guns  													blazing on January 1st, but  													by February, you&rsquo;re losing  													motivation, cheating on your  													diet, skipping workouts, and  													slipping back into old  													patterns? <p>            Suggestion: don&rsquo;t make  													resolutions. Set 													<span style="font-weight: bold;">SMARTER</span> goals.</p>
<p>            Resolutions aren&rsquo;t real  													goals. They&rsquo;re more like  													wishes, and wishes are  													wishy-washy. A wish becomes  													a goal the moment you put it  													in writing. When you write  													your goals in a certain way,  													following scientific  													principles of success  													psychology, you&rsquo;ll skyrocket  													your chances of getting what  													you want this year&hellip; and  													keeping it.</p>
<p>            One of the most tried and  													true methods for goal  													achievement is the SMART  													goals formula. If you  													searched the net for SMART  													goals, you would probably  													find a dozen different  													variations on the SMART goal  													acronym. Here&rsquo;s my version  													of SMART goals, along with a  													little extra to make them  													even SMART-ER.</p>
<p>            <strong>1. Specific.</strong> Set  													goals with clarity. Your  													mind does not respond well  													to vague generalities. If  													you say your goal is to lose  													weight and then you lose one  													pound, then you&rsquo;ve reached  													your goal. Is that what you  													really wanted? Get clear. Be  													precise. Be specific.</p>
<p>            <strong>2. Measurable.</strong> Set  													goals that can be quantified  													in measurable units such as  													pounds, body fat percentage,  													lean body mass, inches and  													clothing sizes. Performance  													goals can include strength  													(lbs or kilos lifted) and  													repetitions completed. Don&rsquo;t  													forget to include health  													goals as well, such as blood  													pressure and blood lipids.</p>
<p>            <strong>3. Accountable.</strong> Set  													goals you can be held  													accountable to. First be  													accountable to yourself by  													using a weekly progress  													chart, a daily nutrition  													diary and a training  													journal. Then double your  													motivation with external  													accountability and submit  													your results and journals to  													someone else who will hold  													you to your commitments.<br />
            <strong><br />
            4. Realistic.</strong> Set goals  													that are attainable and  													maintainable. If you lose  													two pounds of fat per week,  													you are doing awesome. 30  													pounds in 30 days sounds  													great in the advertisements,  													but it is not typical, and  													rapid weight loss is likely  													to consist of muscle and  													water, not fat, and is  													nearly impossible to  													maintain.</p>
<p>            <strong>5. Time Bound.  													</strong>Set  													goals with deadlines. Time  													limits are highly  													motivating. With no time  													limit, there is no urgency  													for completion. Set goals  													for daily workouts and  													nutrition, weekly weight and  													body composition and 12 week  													changes in weight, body fat  													or measurements. Set long  													term goals as well for one  													year, five years and even  													beyond. For all time  													periods, be certain that  													your deadline is realistic.</p>
<p>            Now we add some motivational  													ooompf for this year by  													making your goals even  													SMART-ER!</p>
<p>            <strong>6. Emotional.  													</strong>Goals  													give you a direction, but  													strong emotions are the  													propulsion system that  													drives you in that  													direction. Build up a  													burning desire by focusing  													on the emotional reasons why  													you want to achieve your  													goal. Connect your goals to  													your values. What&rsquo;s most  													important to you about  													reaching your goal? If you  													reach 9% body fat, or  													whatever is your target,  													what will that do for you?  													What will your life look  													like then? Reviewed often.</strong>  													Resolutions fail because  													they are casually set once  													at the beginning of the year  													and easily forgotten. Stay  													laser-focused by writing and  													reading your goals every  													day. Repetition is one of  													the keys to re-programming  													your mental computer for  													success. Use the goal card  													technique. Write your single  													most important body or  													fitness goal on a small  													card, then carry it with you  													every where you go, reading  													it several times a day.</p>

<p>            &#8230;&quot;How much can you BENCH?&quot;</p>
<p>            And Justin&#8217;s response SHOCKS them&#8230;</p>
<p>            &#8230;&quot;I don&#8217;t know. I&#8217;ve just been doing  										PUSHUPS for the past 6<br />
            months!&quot;</p>
<p>            &quot;Pushups?!&quot;</p>
<p>            Yeah&#8230;that&#8217;s right&#8230;PUSHUPS!</p>
<p>            One of his friends even had the nerve to  										tell him there was NOW WAY 										pushups could outperform the Bench Press  										for chest development.</p>
<p>            Why?</p>
<p>            Because (he says), &quot;If it did, football  										players would be doing<br />
            pushups instead of the Bench Press&quot;!</p>
<p>            Can you believe that?</p>
<p>            Ok, first&#8230;football players DO use  										pushups in their training and<br />
            for the much the same reasons I use them  										in &quot;Combat The Fat&quot;.</p>
<p>            Football players (the ones who actually  										have to run up the field)<br />
            need to be as LEAN and in shape as  										possible.</p>
<p>            In fact, I&#8217;ve worked with getting some  										football players in shape<br />
            for tryouts and the increase in their  										field performance SOARED once 										I forced them out of that &quot;weight  										room-only&quot; focus and into doing 										&quot;old school&quot; pushups, pullups, and other  										bodyweight exercises.</p>
<p>            Look Lewis&#8230;DON&#8217;T get caught up in that  										same idiotic 										thinking that Justin&#8217;s friend did.</p>
<p>            When it comes to building muscle and  										burning fat, bodyweight<br />
            exercises RULE!</p>
<p>            In fact, this coming Monday, I&#8217;m going  										to be interviewing a good<br />
            buddy of mine on how to take advantage  										of the entire &quot;Old School&quot; 										package&#8230;training, nutrition, you name  										it.</p>

<p>                        Okay, on to the positive review:</p>
<p>                        And more brutal honesty.</p>
<p>                        &quot;Total Body Makeover&quot; is a great addition 						 to your library for three simple reasons:</p>
<p>                        1.&nbsp; You get the detailed workouts and opinions of not one but EIGHT pro fitness trainers.</p>
<p>                        Look, I know most every one of these 						 trainers. In fact I was asked to be a part 						 of TBM but I was too busy with another 						 project.</p>
<p>                        Craig Ballantyne &mdash; simply one of the best 						 trainers I have ever known. The guy knows 						 training inside and out. He creates some of 						 the coolest workouts I&rsquo;ve ever seen,especially for in-home and bodyweight<br />
                        training.</p>
<p>                        Nick Nilsson&hellip; the &quot;mad scientist&quot; of 						 bodybuilding. Seriously&hellip; this guy has 						 invented more exercises than I USE in a 						 year. Literally hundreds.</p>
<p>                        Rob Poulus:&nbsp; Another good friend and just 						 rock-solid, real family-man kinda guy. 						 Transformed his own body and shares 						 how with his readers.</p>
<p>                        There&rsquo;s more, but you get the gist.</p>
<p>                        &nbsp; Why multiple pro trainers?</p>
<p>                        Because not everyone can train the same 						 way, I found this valuable.</p>
<p>                        For instance, there&rsquo;s a section on working 						 out in hotels and on the road that you can 						 also apply at home. For those of you 						 without a gym, this will be a lifesaver.</p>
<p>                        There&rsquo;s hard-core workouts, workouts that 						 focus more on cardio, and all the valid 						 viewpoints that work from the pros who use 						 them daily.</p>
<p>                        And it covers the &quot;total body&quot; &mdash; fatloss, 						 body parts, specific plans, and more. Very 						 complete all the way around.</p>
<p>                        2.&nbsp; The book is <strong>cheap</strong> &#8211; frankly  						speaking I would charge more than AtoZ Fitness is charging for the product.</p>
<p>                        3. The people behind the book are salt of the earth. I&rsquo;ve known Lew and Sarah for years through our Internet &lsquo;family&rsquo; of professional trainers.</p>
<p>                        They&rsquo;ve both transformed their bodies (ironically using many of my programs 						 along with the great stuff in Total Body 						 Makeover) &mdash; and that says it all for me.</p>

<p>                        &mdash; &gt;&nbsp; I use this rule:&nbsp; Look for ONE thing you 						 can take away from any book or product that 						 you can immediately put to use. Just one.<br />
                        If you find three, that is even better&hellip;.</p>
<p>                        <strong>&nbsp; &hellip; but one is enough.</strong></p>
<p>                        Applying just one new idea can totally 						 change your workouts and your life.</p>
