2 Little Known Fat Burning Facts

Carbs, carbs, carbs. That’s what everyone seems to want to talk about. How do I avoid carbs?

Well, what you should be talking about instead is, “How do I get more lean Protein into my eating plan?”

Now THAT is the right question.

You see, Protein is where it’s at. Check out these two little known facts about protein:

1) Protein requires more calories to digest than carbs or fat. This is called the “thermic effect of food.” In other words, your body uses more calories to digest protein than other nutrients. Pretty sneaky, huh?

2) Protein provides satiety. That’s a fancy way of saying you feel fuller for longer when you eat protein 😉

Good sources of Lean Protein come from foods such as:

Fish, eggs, poultry, lean beef…

But some people have trouble eating enough protein each day. Some people would like it to be more convenient for them.

If that’s the case with you then I have VERY good news. And it’s news I’ve been waiting to tell you for some time now.

My buddies over at Prograde Nutrition have finally released their pharmaceutical quality whey protein.

You see, not all Protein powders are created equal. Prograde Protein:

– Delivers unparalled purity through low-temperature mirco-filtering

– Is naturally sweetened with Stevia

– Contains 5.3 grams of branch chained amino acids per serving

– Mixes instantly with just a spoon

– Enhances absorption and digestion via lactase and Aminogen digestive enzyymes

Look, I’ve been waiting patiently for Prograde Protein to come out. But as usual, Prograde just would NOT release this product until they could get it as close to perfect as possible. Now that it’s here, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Yours in health,

PS – Prograde Protein is NOT just some run of the mill protein powder you can find anywhere. They’ve really hit a home run with this one.

4 ways to naturally increase your testosterone levels.

How To INSTANTLY Improve Your Testosterone Levels

By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES
Our bodies contain two types of testosterone.  One is the kind that is bound to a type of hormone and is responsible for dictating to the body how much free testosterone there is.  The other form is testosterone that is free and unbound, and is the form of testosterone that is metabolized by the cells for use.

The job of testosterone is important in the body.   Testosterone helps aid in development of different systems in the body from the skin, kidneys, and muscular development.   Testosterone development and secretion start when we are infants, shuts down production for a little bit of time, and then picks back up during, and after, puberty.

The normal level of testosterone in the body is 18.0 nmol• L which slowly decreases as we age.  By the time we hit our 60s, the level of testosterone in the body can drop as low as 12.0 nmol• L.    Decreased levels can result in brittle bones, increased adipose tissue (abdominal fat), and increased mortality rates from cardiovascular disease.

There are ways to increase testosterone levels naturally, and fight back to regain the swagger that you had in your 20s.

Here are 4 ways that you can naturally boost your testosterone levels.

Heavy resistance exercise has been shown to not only help strengthen bones and increase muscle size and strength, but now you can increase testosterone levels, especially in middle-aged men.

Research done by Häkkinen et al, demonstrated that the benefits of heavy resistance training in young and middle-aged men significantly increased testosterone levels.  The protocol that was used was 5 sets with varying intensity for a maximum of 10 repetitions.   For men 70 plus, there were no changes in the level of circulating testosterone after the heavy strength training.

Research done by Loebel et al. concluded after researching different articles that resistance exercise is responsible for increasing muscle size and strength, due in part to increases in free testosterone in the body.    They also noted that post exercise there might possibly be an increase in testosterone levels due, in part, to steroid synthesis or release from the Leydig cells, which are mainly responsible for production of testosterone in the body.

Over training is a phenomenon which has a negative effect on testosterone levels.  Research done by Wheeler et al. concluded that endurance training in marathon runners resulted in decreases in testosterone levels, but not to very low levels.

So if you are thinking about getting back into the gym and working out again, take it slow and let your body adapt to the fitness training.  Do not try to go full board at first, because that can lead to over training and increases your risk of injury.  Start slowly and incorporate strength training into your routine to help your muscles get stronger, but to also increase your testosterone levels.

Everywhere you turn, there is another low-fat alternative or low-fat diet coming onto the market, with each one geared at helping you to lose weight through healthy and sensible food options.  However, low fat might not be the best thing for a person with low testosterone levels.
Research by Volek et al. concluded in their findings that monounsaturated fat and saturated fat dramatically increased testosterone levels to 62 and 59% respectively.
Research done by Dorgan et al. concluded that a diet high in fat and low in fiber resulted in a 15% increase in testosterone-bound hormones.  This means that there are more bound testosterone which can become free testosterone in the blood to be metabolized.
There are plenty of ways to increase fat into your diet.   Adding foods that are high in monounsaturated fats may possibly increase your testosterone levels.   Olive oil, almonds, peanuts, avocados, and pecans are all sources that provide a serving of monounsaturated fats.
Eurycoma Longifolia  (Long Jack)
Eurycoma Longifolia is an herb that is native to South East Asia and has been used for many years as an aphrodisiac to help aid in sexual disorders.
In research done by Zanoli et al, they took impotent or sexually sluggish rats and supplemented them with Eurycoma Longifolia.  They found that there was an increase in activity in impotent and the sluggish animals compared to the control sample.  They also found that testosterone increased in the animals supplemented with Eurycoma Longifolia compared to the control group.
Eurycoma Longifolia has long been used as a way to help with improvements in sexual dysfunctions by possibly increasing testosterone levels.

Tribulus Terrestris
Tribulus Terrestris is an herb that is found in many different areas around the world.  This plant is considered a noxious weed with sharp seeds.  There is continuing research on Tribulus as a way to enhance sexual performance and increase vitality in men.
The fruit, or berries, is the most widely used portion of the plant because of the high levels of saponins that are found in them.
One of the possible ways that Tribulus helps with raising testosterone levels is by raising the production of LH hormone in the body, which stimulates the testes to start producing more testosterone.
Men who have found decreased levels of testosterone levels can breathe a sigh of relief.  By incorporating these steps you can possibly raise your testosterone levels, helping to build your confidence with a strong, healthy, and lean body.

3 Fat Loss Myths Debunked

True Or False: 2013 Fat Loss Quiz

By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES

Fifty years ago, adding physical activity and changing your diet were all you needed to do to lose weight and keep it off.

However, flash forward to today, and the same formula for weight loss does not hold true.

In fact, today there are many other factors which contribute to weight gain, and why for millions of people worldwide, it is much harder for you (and them) to lose weight.

Chronic inflammation, which is low-level inflammation that is present in your body and could signal the start of many different disease processes, is on the rise and could be the leading cause for dysfunctional fat cells.

Dysfunctional fat cells, research suggests, could inhibit your fat cells’ ability to secrete powerful hormones.  These powerful hormones could be the key to helping you lose weight.

By not secreting these hormones, your body may have a harder time using stored fat, which could prevent you from having a lean and tone figure.

Today, we have debunked some of the common myths associated with your fat cells.

Myth #1: Your Fat Cells Are Just A Storage Unit – FALSE

People once thought of fat cells as pockets where fat from food goes – allowing for storage of fat to be used for energy later.

Now, however, research suggests that your fat cells are, in fact, alive and metabolically active.

Your fat cells, commonly known as white adipose tissue, could be the largest endocrine organ in your body.

Just like your thyroid and pancreas, your fat cells release many different hormones, which directly impact your weight loss success.

One hormone in particular, Adiponectin, could help you lose weight and keep it off.

However, research shows that being overweight could cause your fat cells to slow the secretion of Adiponectin and other key hormones, which could make it even harder for you to lose weight.

Chronic inflammation, which is low-level inflammation and is always present in your body, could cause your fat cells to become dysfunctional, therefore altering their ability to release powerful weight loss hormones.

Myth #2: Your Fat Cells Can Burn Off – FALSE

Your fat cells shrink but they do not burn off.

This means that during exercise, or cases of extreme fasting, your fat cells release stored fatty acids for use as calories (energy).

This could help to shrink the SIZE of the fat cells.

However, by overeating, there is an influx of calories which your body tends to store as fat.

And this could increase the size of your fat cells.  However, when your fat cells are at full capacity, they send a signal to smaller, undeveloped fat cells, to divide and take on more fatty acids.

This could create more fat cells to store extra fatty acids.

Myth #3: What You Put in (and on) Your Body Can Slow Fat Loss – TRUE

There are a lot of factors involved when you are trying to lose weight now, than there were 50 years ago.

Exercise and diet do play a role in your body’s ability to burn stored fat; and this could enhance your fat cells’ ability to secrete hormones, causing you to lose weight.

However, there are certain environmental factors which need to be considered when you are trying to lose weight.

Today, there are more hormones and antibiotics injected into livestock which, once eaten, could alter the hormone levels in your body.

Plus, there are also hundreds of chemicals that you are exposed to over the course of the day, which could also alter your hormone levels and lead to weight gain.

Certain chemicals act as endocrine blockers and potentially could alter your ability to gain lean mass by throwing your hormones out of whack.

This could increase the storage of fats from your blood, making it harder for you to lose unwanted belly fat.

Optimize Your Fat Burning Potential

Research suggests that your body could have toxic fat cells, which could limit your fat cells’ ability to secrete powerful weight loss hormones.

Toxic fat cells could also increase your risk for developing heart disease, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and diabetes.

However, by losing weight and altering your hormone levels, you could have the ability to transform your fat cells, making them happier and healthier for years to come.

Fat Cells – Turning Foes Into Friends

Fat Cells – Turning Foes Into Friends

By Mike Roussell, PhD –

We always look at our fat cells as the enemy – making our pants too tight, causing unsightly bulges under our shirts, and stubbornly sticking to that area below our belly buttons.

I want to propose a radical idea to you…make friends with your fat, take care of it, and fix it.

An ugly truth is that you’re stuck with the fat cells you have, so why not make the best of a bad situation?

Why? Because your fat cells can actually help you lose weight. You may be thinking “How could that even be possible?!”

Simple! Your fat cells don’t just sit there.

They actually release their own unique hormones, which scientists call adipokines, which help regulate your body weight.

When these hormones aren’t optimized, weight loss is harder; but optimize them, and they will help you lose weight faster.

Here are three ways you can optimize these hormones for more efficient weight loss.
