Although the title may scare some of you, or at least make you a little apprehensive, I can assure you, there is no high wall to scramble over, no mud-pit to jump, no crawling under barbed wire with live bullets singing around your ears. Promise!

This is a … how shall I put it, friendly battle? Not quite, because you will be engaging in a serious battle against your excess bodyfat, and guess what: you’ll be the victor!

When Jeff “The Muscle Nerd” Anderson launched his program, he also launched a challenge, and more or less dared Lewis and I to join. I was game from day 1, Lewis was a little more hesitant at first, but we both jumped in.

You don’t get an actual meal plan, just nutritional guidelines; there is no calculating or measuring or weighing – the soldiers just have to take what’s available to them, so it makes sense to learn simply what to do with what you have in front of you, be that at a buffet, on a restaurant menu or at a friend/family meal; heck, even faced with your own kitchen’s content sometimes.

As far as the workouts, I’ll willingly admit they look a little intimidating at first; however, once you dive in and just follow orders, they’re not that complicated at all. Most are bodyweight exercises, some dumbbells may be required, or if you have a gym membership you can also use certain machines and/or free weights.

There are different levels of “hardship” each with their own sub-levels. This makes it easy to find your perfect workout, as well as progress as the weeks go by. Beginner Level is 1, 2 or 3; you then go on to Novice which is split into 3 sub-levels as well, the lowest (1) being a little harder than Beginner 3; and the Advanced is the same 1, 2 and 3 sub-levels as well.

Lewis has stuck with this workout program ever since March 2008; that’s how much he enjoys it (we are now mid-July 2009). I enjoyed it while I did the challenge, and we both dropped a fair amount of excess fat by following Jeff’s drills. In fact, you can judge for yourself right here:

 

Not only did we burn that fat off, combating the ugly and unhealthy stuff; but we’ve both kept it off – in fact, I’ve burned off even more since the end of the challenge.
